The concept for the introductory line was to build on the foundation of the Scout Canning brand by creating a secondary identity that could act as a sibling brand to support non-food items, and thus Scout Market Goods was born! We approached the design and development of Scout Market Goods with the same requirements and values championed by the Scout Canning brand: Eco-friendly materials, Recyclable packaging and Zero plastics.
Scout Market Goods
After successfully launching Scout Canning in Spring of 2020, the team at Scout saw an opportunity to expand their product assortment and consumer reach to include complimentary home goods. Scout products have been designed for sharing, hosting and enjoying together, so it felt natural to offer a limited edition line of Seacuterie serve products—just in time for the holidays.
Scout Market Goods was an opportunity to offer Scout customers new products that enhanced their sustainable seafood experience, and increase awareness of the brand in a new category segment.
We sought to create an identity that felt related to the master brand without jeopardizing the integrity of either. Special consideration was given to the user packaging experience of food vs non-food items, regulations and consumer value perceptions.
In an effort to separate the two brands, it was decided that Scout Market Goods would present with an inverted colour palette to its counterpart, notably a bright white logo-mark on the rich tomato red background. The packaging forms are novelty and gift-able. A nautical flag-inspired pattern was introduced as a pillar element of the packaging system. Product materials are kept natural and organic feeling utilizing acacia and rubber woods, stainless steel and ceramics. The result? A product line expansion that provides a unique experience, while enhancing the core Scout Canning assortment.
