As with many businesses in 2020, Charlotte was looking to insulate her business and update her services for the modern covid-affected world, as well as revamp the look and feel for something more in line with the co-founder of a quickly growing sustainable seafood empire. Showcasing the great work she does with the MSC, Marine Stewardship Council, as the ambassador for Canada was also a priority.
Chef Charlotte Langley
We are no stranger (who is, at this point?) to the culinary wonder that is Chef Charlotte Langley. We first met the Canadian celebrity chef and MSC Ambassador when we partnered to create her brand Scout Canning, the sustainably-sourced-craft-canned-seafood line. So when Charlotte approached us to re-imagine her personal brand and website, we jumped at the chance.
In working closely with Charlotte to develop the visual identity for Scout Canning, we had a good idea of this East-Coasters creative taste. It was important for us to translate the foundation we had built with Scout, to a visual identity for Charlotte that felt on-brand—while also capturing her authentic personality and flare. We began by refining the colour palette to a more mature system of shades that complemented Scout, but felt new and fresh on their own. We also chose to pull forward the element of the nautical flag pattern that had been developed, transformed through colour for a more chic presentation.
Charlottes’ library of culinary photography was vast and provided the perfect visual element to ground all of the graphics that were developed. The crown jewels in this branding exercise, we feel, are the modern Aphrodite icons which alternate between the classic representation of the shell-born goddess and our current ocean ambassador—cans and all! The fine balance of linear illustrations, bold nautical patterns, and inspiring food photography perfectly capture the warm, colourful personality that is Charlotte Langley.
The result? An authentic branded experience designed to be a foundation for the many upcoming and exciting projects this Canadian Chef has planned. Stay tuned!
